Greetings Campers!

With Edinburgh finished and CCT Stanwick well underway, the summer really has arrived!

We've also been running  successful ReFresh days in Brighton and London and are looking forward to working in Sunderland at the end of the summer.

I am beginning the start of several trips to visit our camps - so maybe see you at one of them this summer!

Cathedral Campers

Looking for a summer with a difference?

We still have some places available for volunteers at eight of our camps this summer - but they are going fast with new volunteers joining daily.

If you're looking for something great and different to do this summer - or know any 16-25 year olds who are at a loose end! - a Cathedral Camp is a great opportunity to give something back, while having fun, learning new skills, meeting new people and visiting new places!

Each venue offers something unique - so whether you're drawn to a big town, or rural Nottinghamshire, or just like the idea of Brecon jazz festival; we have something for everybody!

To learn more about the programme please visit the webpage or call Rebecca on 0207 6431395 and this year you can access the application online here.

Leaders

CC leaders achieve Youth Achievement Award!

Congratulations to our Cathedral Camp leaders from 2009 who have achieved the Youth Achievement Platinum Award.

Hayley Teresa Carroll and Elizabeth Barker both recieved their Platinum Award in recognition of their work as leaders of Cathedral Camps at Southwell Minster and Brecon Cathedral.

Liz said:
"The Youth Achievement Award was a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills and gain achievements; The training courses I did with Cathedral Camps included a First Aid course and sessions on teamwork, which have provided leadership skills which I can apply in the future - all achieved whilst also having fun.
The Platinum Award includes preparing a Personal Development Plan and 10 minute presentation which really let me be creative, whilst also displaying the work I had done to gain the award.
Cathedral Camps provides opportunities to meet new people, make friends and see new places - I spent a week in sunny Wales leading 12 campers, many I remain in touch with.  This award was an added bonus which looks great on the CV!"

Access to Volunteering Grant!

We are delighted that we were successful in an application for funding and have been awarded an Access to Volunteering Grant, with which we will be able to further our work to expand the involvement of disabled volunteers on our one day and summer projects.

Access to Volunteering is a pilot that aims to increase the number of disabled people volunteering by providing grants to supporting organisations. Money is provided by the Office for Civil Society with funds being offered in three test regions - Greater London, North West and West Midlands.

There is to be one further round of applications for grants and more information about how to apply for an Access to Volunteering grant and a list of the successful bids is available online at: www.accesstovolunteering.org.

Rob Hooper Meet a Cathedral Camps leader: Robert Hooper

"I became a Cathedral Camps 'camper' asged 18, as part of my Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award. A week in Wells gave me the opportunity to make a difference to the cathedral, as well as seeing parts of this historic building that aren’t open to the general public. I loved working as a team, and getting the opportunity to meet people from all sorts of different backgrounds.
I returned the following year, and after finishing university I became a Leader. This summer I will be leading my fourth camp, at a parish church in central London. I still love getting a chance to see ‘behind the scenes’ of historic churches, and working with other young people. Having done camps as a volunteer myself, It’s great to see the sense of achievement people have at the end of the week – that’s what keeps me coming back!"

You'll be happy to hear ReFresh has finally joined facebook.

Please join our group to recieve all the latest ReFresh dates and see pictures and share stories after the events.

If you run a faith building and feel it could benefit from a day of volunteering activity email Rebecca about organising an event in your building. ReFresh and Cathedral Camps are always looking to work with new venues and new groups of young people so please get in touch if you think your group of young people or venue might benefit from a day of volunteering.
