• A 14 per cent drop in robbery, the fifth highest drop in London
• A 22 per cent drop in serious youth violence, the third highest drop in London
• A 20 per cent drop in the most serious violence
• A 16 per cent drop in knife crime
• A 13 per cent drop in domestic violence offences

New Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment
Following the local elections Cllr Shoaib Patel has been appointed Cabinet Member for Community Safety for Redbridge.
Cllr Patel said, “I’m delighted to be representing the people of Redbridge as Cabinet member. I am grateful to all those who voted for me in Ilford South and for the support from my fellow Councillors.
“I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and our diverse community, and together I’m confident we will be able to make the Borough a cleaner and safer place for residents.
“I have many areas of work that I am keen to start work on and I am passionate about reducing anti-social behaviour and drugs crime in Redbridge.”
Annual Review
The annual review for the last financial year was included as a supplement for the May edition of Redbridge Life. The work drew attention to a broad range of work taking place across the partnership that has helped to reduce crime including police operations, single patrols, the Life project, Vigilance, and positive activities for young people. It highlighted some of the major achievements including a reduction in total crime, and significant reductions in knife crime and serious youth violence.

You be the judge
Residents had the chance to learn about sentencing and dish out some sentences of their own at a special free event on Wednesday 19 May.
Around 60 people attended ‘You be the Judge’ which put residents in the shoes of a Magistrate and gave them an insight as to how they make their decisions. The event was organised by HM Court Service.

Redbridge to lead on new rape crisis provision for East London
Redbridge will take the lead on providing a new specialist crisis centre to help the victims of rape and sexual assault in East London.
The new service will offer long-term support and counselling for those aged 14+ who have been raped or sexually abused and is planned to be up and running this year.
The service will help residents from across East London including Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Waltham Forest, Havering, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Hackney. The move is part of a plan to quadruple Rape Crisis provision in the capital.

New Domestic Violence One Stop Shop
People experiencing domestic violence are now able to benefit from a range of support from a brand new One Stop Shop.
The Domestic Violence One Stop Shop is being run every Wednesday from
2pm to 4pm at Loxford Polyclinic in Ilford Lane, Ilford, and provides a
completely free and confidential help and advice service.

Big Clean up

The
Big Clean Up scheme which was introduced to clean up areas to make them
more welcoming for residents and visitors was completed for Valentines
Ward in mid April. During The Big Clean Up 5,536 houses were visited
and over 110 tonnes of rubbish was collected.
Waste collected included:
• 240 mattresses
• 50 traffic cones
• 200 For Sale / To Let Signs
• One bag of cannabis
• 54 knives and two guns were surrendered for the Knife Amnesty

New property marking kits to tackle burglary
Publicity has gone out after the Council agreed to fund the purchase of 2,000 high-tech property marking kits.
The kits will be distributed alongside an extra 1,000 kits being paid
for by Redbridge Police in 10 burglary hotspots
This type of product has had proven success in other areas of the
country. In Nottingham 30,000 homes had property marked resulting in a
40 per cent reduction in burglaries. In Kent, the kits were given to
100 homes in a prime burglary hotspot and burglaries were reduced by 94
per cent.
More Special Constables through Boroughbeat
The Boroughbeat scheme will see up to ten Council employees given one
day per fortnight to volunteer as Special Constables in Redbridge.
All the volunteers will receive 18 days of police training and on
completion will have all the powers of a normal police officer. They
will help with a range of police work and will also be used to support
enforcement work taken by the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour and
Licensing Teams.

Anti-social Behaviour Team tell residents “Report it and We’ll Sort it”
The Council’s ASB team has had a publicity push to highlight its dedicated hotline.
The push included press releases, a leaflet insert into Redbridge Life and advertising in the Recorder newspaper. The move has increased calls to the team’s hotline and more than doubled the amount of hits on the team’s web page. For more information visit Redbridge i www.redbridge.gov.uk/asb
Tackling Burglary – Its Child’s Play
As part of an ongoing priority to tackle burglary and give residents crime prevention tips a leaflet was included in May Redbridge Life highlighting the top 10 crime prevention tips for burglary.

- British Crime Survey released 15 July. The
BCS measures the amount of crime in England and Wales as well as
people’s perceptions of anti-social behaviour and attitudes towards the
criminal justice system, including the police and the courts. The
survey also looks at people’s attitudes to crime, such as how much they
fear crime and what measures they take to avoid it.
